REEP's Kitchener Home Energy Grants

Grants to Help Keep the Heat In

Grants for insulation and air sealing are available to owners of Kitchener homes built before 1970 through REEP's Kitchener Home Energy Grants program, offered in partnership with the City of Kitchener's Local Environmental Action Fund.

Funding for the incentive program in the amount of $500,000 was approved by city council as part of a Local Environmental Action Fund application made by REEP.

These funds make $440,037 available as incentives and grant verifications for Kitchener homeowners effective July 8, 2011, on a first-come-first-served basis, and they are going fast!

The additional $59,963 supports free energy advice and homeowner learning through public workshops, open houses, and tours at the REEP House for Sustainable Living, as well as administrative costs of the grant program.

Qualify for Grants

To qualify for these incentives, you must have a pre-retrofit ecoENERGY home evaluation through REEP before beginning your upgrades. (See Your Four Steps).

Grant Amounts

REEP's Kitchener Home Energy Grants program provides insulation and air sealing upgrade grants to a maximum of an additional $5,000 per home. These grants are available on a first-come-first-served basis with the completion and verification of the home retrofit. A total of $440,037 is available to owners of Kitchener homes built before 1970.

The grant amounts are based on ecoENERGY grant amounts and may be received in addition to ecoENERGY grants during the 2011-2012 extension of the ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes program.

What Qualifies for Kitchener Grants?

Kitchener grants are available for upgrades to insulation and air sealing only. This includes:

• Ceiling (attic) insulation
• Exterior wall insulation
• Exposed floor insulation
• Basement insulation
• Crawl space insulation
• Air sealing (draft proofing)
