REEP House Funders
Visionaries ($75,000 or more)
Our Visionary sponsors have each contributed over $75,000 towards REEP House. Thank you to the Ontario Power Authority, The Ontario Trillium Foundation, and Canada's Economic Action Plan for your support and partnership in the development of REEP House.
Since its formation in 2004, the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) has played a leading role in developing the province’s energy plan. The OPA established a conservation fund in 2005 to provide funding for action-oriented, sector-specific conservation pilot projects. Through this fund, the OPA has enabled REEP House to develop a self-sustaining business model for our Net Zero LEED Platinum Sustainable Living Showroom for integrated energy-use reduction and sustainability programming. With the OPA’s support, REEP House will create a template for the development similar projects across Ontario.
In cooperation with our local utilities, REEP House will also participate in a pilot project that will evaluate a variety of information and technologies that are being considered for future OPA electricity conservation programs.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading grant foundations. By supporting community-based initiatives such as REEP House, OTF aims to support enhanced employment and economic potential for workers and their families through the promotion of the green economy.
Funds generously donated by the OTF are being used to develop hands-on educational programming, including tours of our facility, access to our website and decision-making software. Their funding also supports participant follow-up and support, as well as program evaluation. The result will be tabulation and verification of actual results achieved by the project, plus ongoing improvement of our programming.
The Community Adjustment Fund is a time-limited economic stimulus measure, announced as part of the Canada's Economic Action Plan. The funds are delivered through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.
At REEP House, we've used funding to create the equivalent of 68 months' worth of full-time employment for a single local worker. In reality, the project employed 30 local contractors and 60 labourers, and made our extensive renovations possible. The funds directly supported the transformation of 20 Mill Street from a typical, energy- and water-wasting Century home to a state-of-the-art showroom for sustainable living technologies. These renovations are intended to inspire the public to renovate their own homes, thereby further stimulating the green economy and minimizing the use of natural resources.
Innovators ($25,000 to $75,000)
Our Innovator sponsors have each contributed between $25,000 and $75,000 towards REEP House. Thank you to the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, the City of Kitchener's Local Environmental Action Fund and the Kresge Foundation for your support and partnership in the development of REEP House.
The Regional Municipality of Waterloo has supported the REEP House project in a wide variety of ways. Most notably, the Region generously donated the long-term lease of 20 Mill Street to serve as our public education showroom, and the temporary lease of 24 Mill Street, which served as the project’s construction office. The Region also provided funds to support the energy and water efficiency upgrades that have been undertaken at both locations. Long term monitoring of the water and energy consumption rates at both of these properties will document the results achieved.
In 2007, Kitchener city council underscored their commitment to protecting and conserving the environment by creating the $5-million Local Environmental Action Fund (LEAF).
LEAF made a generous donation to the REEP House project, supporting our wide variety of outreach programs and services. These outreach programs will help empower those living within the City of Kitchener and beyond to enhance their ability to live more sustainably in the future.

The Kresge Foundation generously donated funds to support the unique, collaborative design process that resulted in the creation of REEP House for Sustainable Living. At present, an application is being made to establish the project as Canada’s first LEED Platinum renovation.
