REEP House Project

The REEP House Project is REEP’s newest initiative to inspire our community towards healthier homes and sustainable living. Two side-by-side century homes in downtown Kitchener will be transformed into models of energy and water efficiency.

The goal is to demonstrate the efficiency upgrades possible in older homes, document the energy, water, and carbon savings that result, and show that these are smart investments that bring financial, home-comfort, and environmental benefits.

The homes are owned by the Regional Municipality of Waterloo and will be used for Regional Housing when the project is complete. This is a community project with local partner participation as well as funding from foundations and other levels of government.

Phase 1

The 1st house, Phase 1, will be completed within the first 6 months of 2009 as an example of accessible energy and water retrofits eligible for federal and provincial incentives.

Phase 2

The 2nd house, Phase 2, will have deeper retrofits that bring LEED certification and approach net-zero energy performance. This will be a 2 1/2-year project with public workshops and tours throughout to maximize the public education and outreach possibilities.
