Greening Sacred Spaces Network Workshop

Transit Routes: GRT buses 5, 7C, 7D, 7E and iXpress, King/William Street stop; bike parking available in front of 99 Regina St.
Workshop goal: to give faith groups the tools that they need to plan a successful event, educational series, etc. to promote sustainable transportation in their faith communities, such as:
- Organizing a 'walk to worship' day (based on the successful 'walk to school' day in April), including issues such as barriers to participation, how to organize a successful event
- Organizing an ongoing ‘walkathon’ event (e.g. Christian churches sometimes sponsor a virtual pilgrimage during lent, where participants keep track of the distances they walk, and tally these distances to ‘walk to Jerusalem’)
- Providing information about organizations that can help them promote sustainable transportation, such as Grand River Carshare, Grand River Transit, Recycle Cycles
- ther ideas that faith groups could integrate: bike maintenance workshops at their place of worship, carpool organization, GRT information, installing a bike rack
