Benefits to Waterloo Region
Reducing energy consumption in the residential sector brings many far-reaching benefits to both individuals and the community at large. The advantages of having REEP available in Waterloo Region include:
- Improved local air quality: Using less energy for home heating, cooling and appliances translates into fewer smog-causing pollutants being released and therefore helps to reduce smog and improve air quality in the Region.
- Greenhouse gas emission reductions: A survey of participants in Natural Resources Canada's national home energy evaluation program showed the average reduction in harmful emissions was 2 to 4 tonnes per home each year.
- Local economic stimulus: The same national survey suggests participants spend an average of $3000 on energy-saving upgrades. In Waterloo Region, over $4,000,000 has been spent locally by our customers on labour and materials.
- Employment: More than 80 University of Waterloo co-op students have been employed at REEP in various marketing, logistical and energy advisor capacities. Students have been hired from the Faculties of Arts, Science, Applied Health Studies, Environmental Studies and Engineering.
- Research: Research remains a central focus at REEP through our ongoing relationship with the University of Waterloo. Click here to read about projects completed recently.
- Community connections: REEP has partnered with a number of local realtors, insurance professionals, neighbourhood associations, contractors and like-minded organizations to get the word about our services. Click herefor a list of our community partners.
