What is REEP?

REEP Green Solutions is an environmental, non-profit organization empowering our community towards healthier homes and sustainable living. REEP provides the services, tools and programs people need to use energy and water wisely.

REEP is funded by a combination of local partners, provincial contracts, grants and client fees.

Saving Energy, Protecting our Environment

We have assessed the energy efficiency of over 14,000 homes in Waterloo Region. That is approximately 10% of the Region’s eligible housing stock (single/semi/row house and some multi-unit residential apartment buildings).

Customers who have followed our energy-saving recommendations are collectively reducing over 21,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year through home energy retrofits.

REEP offers a number of other services in addition to the home energy evaluation. See all of our programs here.

Beginnings of REEP

REEP was founded in 1999 to be a local delivery agent for the federal government’s EnerGuide for Houses home energy evaluations (now called ecoENERGY).

Our founding was a joint initiative of the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Environmental Studies and the Elora Centre for Environmental Excellence

An Evolution: Waterloo Region Green Solutions

In late 2005, REEP incorporated as Waterloo Region Green Solutions. While we have graduated from our founding organizations, we retain strong ties with them through joint research and development projects. We employ University of Waterloo co-op students every term as energy, marketing and/or research interns. Our founders also continue to be represented on our Board of Directors, helping to steer our future.

We continue to operate under the REEP banner, the name that this community knows us by.

Also in 2005, REEP joined Green Communities Canada, a national association of environmental community groups that share programs and resources.
